I don't think so.
In my opinion, as long as you can clearly delivery your thoughts, then it is good enough. You don't need big words.
1) I want to focus on where this article is from not where I copied from,so "it is from.." is good enough.
2) I use present tense because I still do it on regular base, so past tense is not right here.
3) "learn" is better than "took" here, because I actually learn it by myself.
It is only my 2 cents. I respect your opinions.
