if you have a decent language skill, you might as well still consider lab opportunities. Based on your experience, you may be promoted to a team leader position relatively shortly--again, provided that your communication skills are ok. The pay for lab technicans is not high, but that for a team leader or supervisor is much better. There are plenty of commerical laboratories (chemical, oil & gas, environmental, etc) in Calgary, and even more in Edmonton.
