Just know that Mr. Liu's father is a high ranking official in the Chinese army, PLA---The largest army in the world. He is a teacher for the PLA
And one of Mr. Liu's collegues, Chinese general says US was behind Nobel Peace Prize for Mr. Liu's son a dissident.

Beijing - A top Chinese general on Wednesday said the United States was the behind the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to a jailed Chinese dissident.

Chen Bingde, the chief of the general staff of the People's Liberation Army, made his comments at a meeting with German Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg in Beijing.

Chen said the US had put pressure on the Nobel committee via the Norwegian government to give the prize to Liu Xiaobo, who was jailed for 11 years in December for sedition.

'When someone is against the US government, he is defined as a terrorist. When someone is against the Chinese government, he is a prize winner,' Chen said.

The general belongs to the top military leaders around President Hu Jintao and is a member of the powerful Central Military Commission.

Guttenberg on Tuesday met with Defence Minister Liang Guanglie and spoke 'intensively, openly and clearly' about the award of the Nobel prize to Liu.

The German government wants Liu to be freed and allowed to collect the prize in person in Oslo in December.

Chen also said Washington was partially to blame for the war in Afghanistan because in the 1980s the US trained Islamists to fight the Soviet Union.

He also accused the Western media of biased reporting against China. 'Some media only report the negative side of China.'

Chen warned against excessive expectations of economic development in China, saying there was no chance at the present of overtaking the US as the world's strongest economy. 'We will remain a developing country for a very long time.'
