man, personally thinking, it is impossible.
I have Dell 51v and Bt-338 bluetooth. Good for car navigation, excellent using TOMTOM, very accurate and useful, interface friendly and reaction fast. for hiking? well, the most important thing for outdoor navigation is:
1. never get lost, if not, then 2;
2. find the way back.
think, you go out for hiking for, say, 5 hours away from AC power, the battery for x51v will be good for ( bluetooth GPS: < 1.5 hours, CF GPS? not sure, should be less than 2 hours). If you have the money, just buy a handheld GPS, cheaper one, no integrated map, just for hiking, b/c map in the mountain is not included in usual navigating software, say, TOMTOM, for hiking, either you make your own map, or you download the track info from the net. so it is ok.
buy a garmin etrex, enough, at least it can a. record your track so you can at least find your way back; b. enough battery power for about 11 hours; c. AA size battery replacement
Unless you just go hiking for less than 3 hours, you'd probably buy an extra battery for your x51v, or use an external battery pack, or use your natual instinct to go, just record your turning waypoint instead of record your whole track, mark it on the map, ie. turn on your x51v from time to time, that will save electricity.
I think PDA batteries are not designed to handle the long-time bluetooth usage right now.
