i have both and i just carry the 50mm macro with me all the time
I had a 50mm 1.8 and presently have the 50mm 2.5 CM. The 2.5 is a sharper and more versatile lens. Really nice edge to edge sharpness. The bokeh from 2.5 thru 3.2 has slightly better bokeh than the excellent 60mm 2.8 lens wide open. Nice to have the extreme close up option as well.
I have both lenses and the 50mm CM is a wonderful lens to use, even if it isn't a full macro lens. The MF ring is more accurate than the 50 1.8, which is very helpful. 50 CM is more sharper wide open than other one. 50 1.8 is used only in low light or if i want a shallower DOF and where the extra stop is beneficial. Though I am fairly sure i could live with out, I do prefer the 50 CM to the 501.8. If I had to choose one it would be the 50mm CM.
