It depends on your background. For example, if your major was literature or history, there might be no possibility to develop in IT.

In IT generally there are much more jobs in Microsoft platform than in Unix/Linux platform. It gets less paid in Microsoft than in Unix/Linux. The entrance level is lower in Microsoft than in Unix/Linux.

Even if there are a lot of jobs, it is absolutely not representing that you would find one easily.
