It's almost 2 years passed after your first post.
Labor job is not bad in Canada. You get $20/hr, and 100% benefit. IT job may or may not give the same thing. If your wife is also working, that's good enough to support a family.
If I were you, I will slow down, enjoy the time. Maybe sometimes develop a small game if I really like it. Such as some people like to paint a picture in their free time. Don't give yourself to much pressure.
Life is too short to worry about.
