楼主和我的年龄差不多，对移民来说确实比较尴尬。
如果想找工作，管理工作就不要想啦，技术工作是有可能的，而且，技术工作对英语的要求相对低一些。你应该分析一下自己的技术优势。到Monster 和Workopolis翻翻，自己能胜任的工作多吗？有很多相关的经验吗（特重要）？对自己的实力做到心中有数。IT是有些好转，但这几年积压的人也很多，连当地的新毕业生找工作都很不容易。
如果你们能安于平淡的生活，没有太多的想法，有工作在这里生活还不错。但要2，3年才能安定下来，还要考虑生孩子，又一个难题。
不要来不来就说自己做好了打labor的准备,如果labor和自己的职业理想没有关系的话，那简直就是浪费生命。

太对了！ 如果到加拿大目的就是labour，那书可都念狗肚子里去了。

只要你专业过硬，一定能找到工作。一个搞石油的朋友，面试的时候无法表达，可是立刻用画图来说明问题，老板一看就知道是个能人马上雇佣，年薪7万。

如果你是光靠嘴吃饭，可能赶不上这里本地出生的华人并且有MBA经历的小年轻。

老外说中文无比费力，3000万人才有一个“大山”，如果我们想想成为在加拿大的“大山”，可能困难一点。

I agree. If you want to me a programmer, I think your English is good enough, you 'd better prepare some technical skills. It is hard to find a managment relative position for a new immigrants, due to experience and cultrure difference. There is nothing about discrimination, 99.9% managers in China are not qualified for manager here. So you have to be prepared to start at least 2 levels down here. The beatiful thing here is a engineer still can have good future. Well, life is different here, something is bad, something is good. Be optimistic, be confident, and be PATIENT. Good luck!

Don't want to make you disappointed, just to speak frankly, you are those kind of people who definitely will feel frustrated when you come to Canada, and you are those who definitely should not come to Canada at all. All your accomplishment in China may not be recogonized at first. Your management skills mean nothing here. English is important, the bad thing is for a programmer it is secondary, for a manager your English is not good enough.

Your wife should be much easier with a British master degree.

Thank you very much. Now, I am not a manager in current company. I hope I can make a good balance between English and programming skill, even recently, I have not wirte any source code, but I can clarify the requriement, design document and interface definition with my foreign colleagues. I am not sure it is very useful for me.

I agree with you. In my mind, all of you just want to help me. According to my plan, now, I am collecting everyone's suggestion, experience.... then I will identify my weekness for living in Canada. Before landing, I will make a plan to find a job.
For possitive example, one of my friend found a job in Nokia in 3 month. Because there is loser and winner according to the rule of live, but I hope the sunshine will be with you and me.

Well, this is the first thing I think you will feel disapointed. Most agents may won't want to talk to you. That is the exact thing I did the second day I arrived in Canada, and no result. They are all busy and just want to talk with people they seleceted for specific position. So my suggestion is just post your resume on www.workopolis.com or www.monster.ca, and they will find you eventually.

For resume, I never used resume maker, but if it is US style, you still need some modification, since there is some difference. I suggest you take some workshop after you arrive to get some advice on this.

So you are a software guy, me too. So I can give you more suggestion, you have to be fluent on some programming languages, like java, C/C++/C#.. and at least one major database (oracle, MS-SQL, DB2). Of course the system requirement, analysis and design skills are important, but not critical, since 80% your first job will be a programmer, not a system analyst (which is a much higher level one, not a lot of open, and requires much more communication skills).
