Don't worry. I got the same information back from them twice before I got my third letter. If you are not too unlucky you will receive your third letter by Oct. this year, two-three month after your medical exam is out of date...or maybe earlier. They are doing background check.

I just got an answer back from CIC Buffalo saying that they are waiting for information of my back ground check from the other government offices. It will take 9 to 12 months to complete. I applied in Nov 2003 and all the medicals mailed out in Aug 2004.

Does it mean that they have received all of my documentations except the final decision has not been made? I do not want to be informed again that I need to submit...... again and again?

Hope you guys can help me.

How long will it take to get my passport back???

Usually 3-4 weeks after I mailed them to Buffalo?

I think if they let you mail them your passport for the immigration visa before some deadline, say... 2-3 month after your medical exam expires, they will NOT ask you to do the medical exam again. Anyway this is not up to you but up to them. You can fax them to see what happens to your case but usually they will say the same thing all the way before your background check is done. You may order your Caips notes to check if there is a timeline ( you may refer to some previous posts in this thread...)

In short don't worry too much just don't forget your application...

. Someday your online status changes and then your third letter comes...You will think "oh, I shouldn't have been worried about this so much everyday because it will come sooner or later... I shouldn't screw up my previous life for this applicaiton, it is just a matter of time". So relax and concentrate on your work/study or anything interesting or fun in our life...
I have been waiting for almost two and half years. I was concerned about this a lot last year when I thought my third letter should come but know I am under some background check(maybe only for personal information not for security,so "only" one year? i don't know)..

Yes. From my friend's caipt it said" full referal letter sent electronically". I think the major bottleneck of background check processing-time is the "check". EDE may speed up the whole thing in some sense, say 1-2 month faster, I guess. Years ago, people form mailand China might only spend 9 months to get their landing paper...now things change. But I think it is just a matter of time to get the immigration visa for most of cases.

另外，说给其他人听，最近从 buffalo 提交给 CSIS 的 B CHECK 都是通过 Electronic Data Exchange (EDE)，快多了。按照上面的说法，median 处理时间是 42 天，我认识的一个人的调查才用了 20 天。

I don't think my passport has been received by them, hehe.... At least 3 weeks before we can get our passports back.

by the way, did you check the web of Canada Post to see if when your passport was received by Buffalo? I checked it for my passport, it arrived at US on April 21, then no update information after that. Does Canada post update their website very late? Thanks.

Yes, they will.
In my case, it took me one weeks for my passports to get there.
from April 11 to April 18. When I checked my delivery information April 19, I found it said "your item has been received by receiver".

Do not worry, I guess you will receive your passports backed next friday.

registered mail. even so it is quite a long. I mailed everything by registered mail all the time. Usually it only takes 8-10 days( not business days) except that once it took 14 days. Hope they didn't lose my passport. I don't really care how long it will take to get my passport back,one month, two month...whatever.

what service did you use? registered mail or xexpress?
for registered mail, i think they update the online status the next working day after it is delivered.

Hi, halifax2003, did you use "National Xpresspost" or "Xpresspost - USA"? If former, letter cannot be mailed to USA. National Xpresspost is only for two regions within Canada. If latter, ok.

thanks. I just knew my passport has been delivered to them on May 2, and no signature...too slow. I gave them a national X-press envelop to get my passport back. I think because you are in Montreal, a post center so it only took one day for you to receive your passport. Anyways... just wait...

It never changed to 'decision made'. Right now due to my landing, no information on me is in the website (E-CASE).

I guess you will receive your passports this Friday or next monday. You do not need to track your backing X-press, because when canadapost website has your mail information immidiately your x-press comes to you. I am not sure what kinds of returning mails you use, I mean 'regular mail or X-press'. You mentioned you used register mail for sending your passports. I guess it slowed down your process. I also remembered you discussed with other guys in this forum what kinds of mails should be used for mailing passport before you sent.

X-press doesn't ask for signature unless you ask for it and pay the money. In case of that it becomes X-press and registered...usually registered mail requires your signature.

Yes, it is delivered by the same postman who is in charge of the regular mail. my Postman just put it in my mailbox and did not ask my signature. You can catch it just as usual.

I didn't find my file number on that list but I was asked to mail them my passport in the early April...don't know why..Maybe it is for cases in Detroit.

Just knew my passport arrived at Buffalo last Monday. No passport returned yet. Can you use the item number of your prepaid Xpress to check it online if my passport has been mailed by them? I checked it, but nothing was there, no record for my Xpress item number.
