I guess you do not know
the research profile of UT. For now, by no means McGill can compare with UT. UT has the largest number of Nobel Prize winners in Canada. It has more than 10000 graduate students, 48 libraries, top 10 in north america in terms of annually research publications. It also have 253 canada research chairs and more than 800 million in research funding. There is one UT graduate in every six facalty members in Canada. You can find many UT doctorate graduates in many top universities across the continent. In most of the UT departments, you can easily find facalty members are fellows of many academic associations, which on the other hand, mean that they focus more on research rather than teaching. I do not mean McGill is not good. But in terms of research, it is lagged behind, possibly due to the independent issue 20-30 years ago. The ranking is possibly based on undergraduate performance. UT has more than 50000 undergraduate students. It is possible that the overall performance is not as good as smaller institutes. |
