First, congratulations, wandering cat. You are a secondly extremely lucky guy I have ever met. You make me jealous. Hehe. I am just kidding. I wished I could switch with you to be rejected by UWO and get an offer with funding From Queen's University. But by all means Queen's University doesn't like me. I think you might probably thank Swanson. Because he turned down the offer with funding from Queen's University and you were picked up to take the offer. But anyway, you are qualified to be accepted into the program of Queen's University no matter there is funding available or not. Your successful application further confirms my impression that a graduate from a famous university has far more opportunities than any one else from an ordinary university in Canada. I wish all other poor Chinese applicants have your kind of luck. Life is good if you just keep it up. Best regards.

-- esterinvan, thank you ! here is the email I got from Queen's, "I am pleased to inform you that you have been recommended for admission into the School of Computing to study for the M.Sc. degree by research, starting in September, 2004, subject to approval by the School of Graduate Studies and Research. Your M.Sc research program is of 12 months duration, partitioned into three four-month terms. You will be guaranteed a total of at least $18,000.00 in funding subject to satisfactory performance in the degree program, and in the paid work associated with it. Further funding may become available once all departmental funding allocations have been received. The normal pattern of support is made up of teaching and research assistantships 1, and a bursary from the University. It is distributed over the three terms. If your progress is good, you may be eligible for some support from your supervisor in the 4th term. All funding is arranged through the School of Computing. If you receive notification of an award from the School of Graduate Studies, this is not additional to your funding, but part of it. Should you receive a major external award, such as an NSERC or an OGS fellowship, then the above amount of $18,000 will be reduced accordingly. Specifically, your financial support from this department will consist of a $4,000 Teaching Assistantship and a minimum of $4,000 in Research Assistantship. " I didn't submit a separate application. :-) -- dmy , thank you ! I have nothing special, just submitted my application on line and then mailed out the required documents. Two profs at U of T wrote ref. letters for me. I didn't contact any prof at Queen's. I was noticed that I was put on the waiting list last month, then soon I received the email above. -- Diver , thank you much for your nice words! I am glad to know you have been accepted by UWO. Its project/course based master program is my first choice but obviously it does not like my soso performance in the last acedemic year. Are you also in CS? Wish you good luck at UWO. -- wtw2003, congratulations! Which program are you in? You can find application form for Campus residence here, http://www.queensu.ca/dsao/housing/ah1.htm. If you can get a 3-bedroom apartment, I will like to share it with you if I decide to go to Queen's. You can also subscribe queen's chinese newsgroup by sending email to LISTSERV@POST.QUEENSU.CA , with blank subject and body as SUBSCRIBE LYH-L. Cheers! |

Hi DMY, u r welcome! The profs gave me ref. letters directly in a sealed envelope, then I mailed them with other documents in a big evelope out to schools i applied to. They are all youge but I think they all have very good acedemic background and their performance are very outstanding. The all taught me one or two courses and know me, although not very well. I got very good marks in the courses so they are impressed by that, that is why they agree to give me ref. letters. |

quote:
