A MISSING DOG
Yesterday night, around 9:30PM to 10:00PM, when I went out for a walk, I noticed a dog just walked along the street by himself, looks like missed. When I saw him, he just roamed on the street and a car almost knocked him. He seemed like scared and when he saw me, he just ran to me. He smelled me and rubbed my legs and then followed me. I think maybe his master was nearby looking for him, and then I told him sit down—he understood my comments and sat down. I waited with him for 10-20 minutes. Nothing happened. I felt cold and went home, but the dog stood up and followed me. It seems like he doesn't want to stay by himself. I told him " Go home, I am not your master." But he just ran away for a while and ran back to me again and continued to follow me. When he looked at me, It seems like he want me help him--He is a big dog, looks like a boy "Bullmastiff" with a funny & cute face (I checked internet later), his eyes looks like a little boy, sad and need help. I decided to help him. I checked his necklace, the only number I found is a dog license number, with a PETS service Tel#. I called the number, but just voice box. Their working time is from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. I double checked, found no home tel# or contact person name. At that time, I blamed that careless master--He or She is so lazy and no responsibility, they lost the dog and did not put the enough information with their pet, just let him roam around at this cold wet winter night. When I checked, the dog just sat down beside me quietly. Obviously, he is a trained dog. I guess maybe his home is nearby, so I started to knock door by door on that street. I approximately knocked 5-6 houses. They all told me never saw this dog before. Including these people, there is an old man, as I know he has 3 dogs himself and walks with his dogs around this area everyday. Normally, he knows every dog's name on the street. He also told me he never saw this dog before. When we went through, the dog just followed me quietly, when I stopped to ask, he also stopped to wait very patiently to let other people look him. But we were not lucky. It is already past 11PM, outside for 1 hour, I felt almost frozen and have no idea how to send him home. At last, I called 911 to ask how I can do. I described the situation; they gave me another 2 numbers. I called the first number, they told me they were only response for Emergency need from pets, this is not the case they take care; I called the second, that is a Wild Animal Center, they didn’t think that was their case. I went home. The dog followed me. When I entered the door and tried to close the door behind me. I saw the dog just looked at me after the glass door and raised his paw knocked the door gently. I heisted and at last I opened the door to let him in. My mother was socked by I taking home a big dog. She didn’t let the dog stay at my home. Maybe she was right, because the dog showed a lot of interesting in my son’s bed. He smell and ran to my son’s room before we closed the door. We have 2 kids, it is too risk to let a strange dog stay at home. He was hungry, but I can’t feed him human’s food. The only food I can give him is milk. He drank some, but looks did not like it. We don’t have any experience for treating a dog. I think maybe the garage room outside is a good place for him and I can call PET Center to find his master tomorrow morning. I took him in front of the garage room, there are a lot of tools inside and when the door opened, the room was dark, that might scare him. The dog realized that I want to leave him there, and he jumped and went away from my hand. He is a strong dog, I couldn’t catch him, he ran away. I stood there hesitate for several minutes, I did not chase him, I think he went away from me finally. But after 5 minutes, I regret. It was so cold, where does he go? And if he walk on the street , I am afraid traffic may hurt him. I went out to look for him. But he has gone. The street looked empty and I could not find him. I looked at the time, it was 11:55PM. When I went back home, I felt so guilty. I couldn’t go to sleep last nigh and got up very early this morning at 5:30AM, I went out to see if he was still around, but didn’t see him. Now I am in office, but the guilty feeling deeper and deeper. I look the snow outside and hope he is OK last night and can find the way back home. I checked internet and know now he is a BULLMASTIFF DOG, his characteristic is: Very Curious and loving kids. And now I understand he ran to my son’s room because he just liked baby’s smell. I regret not take care of him yesterday night and hope he will be fine staying outside for whole night. Does anybody know dogs here can tell me if he will be fine and smart enough to find his home? Can Bullmastiff dog can tolerate -6 to -8 degree outside for whole night? I am not good at English, don't laugh at me, there is no Chinese typing in office, but I really want to know if he is OK.

you can use dict.cn to type Chinese, that's what I'm using now. BTW, I always keep a spare leash in my car just in case I find a stray dog. Don't blame yourself it happens, you'll know better the next time. |

I might remember the number under his neck, do you know where I can check if he was found by his family? I called 2 of my friends, they all have no experice for treating a dog. I should knock my neighbour's door yesterday to ask, they are local westerns, they should give me more suggestion, but at that time, I just concerned it was too late. |

I tried and tried to get his Tag number from my memory; I listed all of 5 maybe numbers, and I called Toronto Pet Service Center: 416-338-7387; I gave the numbers and the dog description to the girl; She checked one by one: 2 numbers not exist; Another 2 belongs to small dogs; Left 1 number belongs to a BOXER, not a Bull Mastiff; (That's could be, I am not familiary of dogs) The girl checked the adrress, the dog should belong to a family 3 streets away of my home. The girl told me BOXER is a very intelligent dog, he can go home from 1KM away. The location I found him should be still within his area. She explained me that a BOXER like follow people and can't stay by himslef, that's the reason why he followed me home. The BOXER might be a bad boy, could be very active and curious, the only thing we worried is the BOXER can't tolerate extreme hot or extreme cold, should between 72 & 70 degree. We just worried he might be sick. The girl promised me call his family to make sure he is at home now. |

Could very well be a boxer, it looks kinda like a bull mastiff. Because it doesn't have a thick coat a boxer could freeze to death in cold weather like this. Hopefully nothing happens to him. Huge kudos to you for doing all this work trying to reunite the dog with his owner! |

Turst me, the first thing, I called this number (SEE MY DESCRIPTION), that Tel# and his tag number is the only information I can get at that time. I already decided to help him, of course I called the number but that's 10PM, they already closed; I also called the HUMAN SOCIETY (GOT NUMBER FROM 911), they also closed at that time. Yesterday, I asked my neighbour, an old man has 3 dogs, he told me never put too much trust on these bureaus, they did less than they promised, the right thing I should do yesterday I should let the dog stay at my home till to next day working time. Then I would like find out: 10:00PM was too late, when all of these bureaus closed, where we can get help for these pets? I will try Ontario SPCA website to find out today. |

you've got nothing to blame to, and don't be too sad that you let the dog go. You've done what you could do. |
