Rogers boosts phone business with acquisition of Call-Net

Ted Rogers took another step toward fulfilling a long-time aspiration to be a major player in the telephone market with the $330-million acquisition of phone company Call-Net Enterprises Inc.

Cable and cellphone giant Rogers Communications Inc. yesterday said it agreed to acquire Toronto-based Call-Net in an all-stock deal that will give it a land-line phone business as part of a costly corporate makeover.
