HQ / Job Location Bentall 4 9th Floor City Vancouver Province British Columbia [BC] Position Environmental Manager Job ID M-019-09 # Positions One Job Status Full Time Regular Work Week Equivalent to 37.50 hours Work Hours Mon to Fri 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Introduction The System Planning and Asset Management team have a new opportunity for an experienced environmental professional. The successful candidate will have strong leadership capabilities to effectively lead highly sensitive and complex consultations with key stakeholders. Excellent communication, presentation and organization skills is a must. Basic Purpose Reporting to the Manager, Environmental, Environment & Sustainability, the Environmental Manager ensures the effective implementation of BCTC's Environmental Management System to support continuous improvement in the areas of environment and sustainability within BCTC’s operations. Major Responsibilities and Duties Responsible for the continued development of BCTC's Environmental Management System, and provides environmental support within BCTC while ensuring management process are aligned with operational needs. Facilitates and creates adaptive programs to support employee commitment to achieve the corporation’s environmental, sustainability and carbon neutral objectives. Develops and manages the implementation of risk reduction process for environmental issues and ensures due diligence is undertaken by the Corporation in all its operations involving employees and service providers. Liaises and promotes an integrated approach to the planning and implementation of environmental programs, strategies and initiatives amongst senior managers, and provides advice and direction with respect to the handling of challenging and/or unusual and environmental issues. Supports the development and implementation of environmental processes, programs and standards in all business areas. The Manager is responsible for ensuring corrective actions and management system improvements are completed to maintain regulatory compliance and due diligence. Monitors the environmental performance of BCTC’s operations and transmission activities; provides coordination, guidance, leadership and consultative services to management to assist in achieving environmental and sustainability goals and targets. Completes reporting on environmental and sustainability performance on a regular basis. Maintains and develops liaisons’ with various regulatory agencies and BCTC partners relating to environmental, climate change, and sustainability matters required to achieve strategic objectives. Maintains a current awareness of developments in the relevant environmental subject areas and participates on various external committees to ensure BCTC's interests are duly represented. Seeks and implements new technology, processes and products that will benefit environmental management practices and performance. Develops and presents business cases, prepares project reports and, at completion, finalizes all financial transactions and completes final reports. Leads and manages diverse project teams and consultants engaged in activities pertaining to environmental issues. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required The selected incumbent will have: Well developed oral and written communication, presentation, relationship building and change leadership skills. A comprehensive knowledge of: The philosophy and practices to maintain environmental and sustainability programs. Provincial and federal regulations pertaining to environmental, carbon neutral, greenhouse gas compliance and their application within BC. Knowledge & experience in environmental program development and implementation. Utility and or demonstrated comparable experience is preferred. Sound conceptual thinking, planning, and analytical, organizational, team leadership and facilitation skills. Sound technical knowledge and understanding of environmental issues in an industrial setting. Experience, Training and Education The selected candidate will have a Bachelors degree in , natural or environmental sciences or related discipline and 8 years experience in managing environmental programs in a large industrial environment, preferably in an electric utility or comparable setting. Additional courses or accreditations in environmental management systems, sustainability and regulatory compliance are deemed an asset.
