他们家什么都不是，如果是穆斯林，我就不说什么了。

不会是Jehovah's Witnesses吧？他们什么都不庆祝，包括生日。我女儿小学一朋友家里就是。

though it sounds a bit extreme,their way is a great and effective way to keep chinese culture and prevent the erosion from western culture.

western culture gradually grauges in kids' heart and soul if not fenced well from every bit of normal.

regardless which culture is better, this family hates western's and loves chinese for sure and maybe have learned a lesson from their elder kids.

generally speaking,for girls ,keeping chinese culture at heart is great while western's is best for boys.

you might not have a girl or if you do,she might be too young to let you totally understand their way,you probably would ...over time unless you like western's for girls.

拒绝接受外来文化是狭碍封闭的表现。保持文化跟接受外来文化其实并不矛盾。
什么女孩应该保持中国文化；男孩应该接受西方文化之说就更匪疑所思了。

没有归属感，对于天性是社会性的人类来说，是很可怕的事情，成人都往往不能接受，对于一个孩子，那简直就是没顶之灾，更不要说孩子将面临的peer pressure了。
Teenage是最Mean的年龄。.

归属感（Need for belonging）是人类最基本的几种需求之一，仅仅位于生理需求和安全需求之后。

all you both said is politically correct, the hard part is the reality: girls are vulnerable and ...
educating girls you have to use street-smart strategy, not politically correct things from books and professors, otherwise it would backlash;this is advice for all that have girls...

in 5-10 years you might agree with me if you pay attention to chinese kids around you...

根本来说，你和我们的观点就不一样，所以你对孩子的期许和教育也不会跟我们一样的。

have you ever realized why you are so chinese but actually you came to west from very young and was educated in west?

it's the chinese environment your parents created either consciously or unconsciously,otherwise you wouldn't be here.

from my point,you are a very chinese lady,very chinese mother,and the last, a well-educated-in-west-but-chinese-culture-at-heart girl. I guess this should be contributed partly to your parents...do you agree?

wiki爸妈肯定没有不让她过这边的节日。

wiki还是保持着一颗中国心。所以wiki说得没错。接受另一种文化，和保持自己的传统文化，没有冲突。反而，见识比较广泛的人，看问题才会更加中立，可观。
