Automotive Pre-Apprenticeship
New Canadians looking to start apprenticeship training but who may be intimidated by the task of finding a sponsoring employer have a new route to their career goals. Centennial is offering an Automotive Pre-Apprenticeship training program at no cost to people who want to work in the automotive trades. The 36-week program gives students knowledge of automotive technology as well as English and job-readiness skills such as resume writing. Centennial will help students arrange a 12-week job placement working in a repair garage or car dealership. Apprenticeship is a major employment growth area due to the large number of skilled workers who are set to retire. The government is offering significant tax credits, scholarships and signing bonuses to encourage more hiring of apprentices for skills training. Graduates will receive credit for Automotive Service Technician Level 1, which exempts them from some classes in the traditional apprenticeship program. To be eligible for entry, students must have their grade 12 diploma, or equivalent from another country, as well as a valid Ontario driver’s licence. Please note: While the program is presently underway, funding for a new class of students is pending government approval. Please check this website periodically for updates. http://www.centennialcollege.ca/iti.php |
