Medical travel insurance required for trips to Cuba

Travel Underwriters Confirmed as an Approved Supplier.

On February 16, 2010, it was announced that as of May 1, 2010, all foreigners and Cubans living abroad will be required to have Travel Medical Insurance, supplied by an approved company before entering Cuba.

The Cuban Embassy has now confirmed that Travel Underwriters is an approved travel insurance supplier for Cuba.

The Cuban government estimates that over 80% of travellers already carry Travel Medical Insurance when travelling to Cuba.

However, now they will be expected to show proof of insurance upon arrival or be required to purchase insurance from a Cuban insurance company at point of entry.

The Cuban supplied insurance coverage limits may not be sufficient for Canadian travellers, and it is recommended that all travellers purchase insurance before leaving home.
