The Charity Is Different
United Way is notorious for using its donation funds. There are executives who work in Charities for free. Many of them are top rank executives in PROFIT organization, and they are serious volunteers. By referring to these people I am not saying everyone working for Charities should not get paid, but $170k is really too much. Canadian Charities are usually required to meet 80% threshold which means that 80% of their revenue need to be used for the organization's STATED purpose. However lots of them do not meet this requirement. For political reason, this rule or principle in most of cases is not enforced. Although everyone has his/her own discretion in choosing the charity, I guess most people would like the money to be largely used for the intended purpose. |
