Job Description: OUR CLIENT: Our client is a leader in the development of gaming software.
POSITION SCOPE:
The UNIX Application Support Specialist will be responsible for supporting custom applications running on Solaris servers in a 24x7 environment.

This position will be an integral part of the IT Infrastructure team at an exciting and growing Internet gaming company. The IT Infrastructure team supports both clients and interface production systems. The team is responsible for managing and maintaining database, networking, transaction processing and systems software packages and supports servers running Linux, Sun Solaris and Windows operating systems.

This position reports to the Application Support Team Lead.

RESPONSIBILITIES: • Acts as a liaison between the support and software groups to resolve technical issues.
• Proactively monitors application logs for potential issues.
• Installs, configures and maintains applications in the production, test and development environments.
• Plans and manages patch releases, preventative maintenance, and upgrades.
• Builds and maintains all relevant technical documentation.
• Cross-trains other team members on application support.
• Participates in back up and disaster recovery planning and implementation.
• Learns new technologies and acts as backup to other team members for these technologies as needed.
• Takes regular on-call shifts to support the operating environment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the Application Support Team Lead.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
• Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, operating, tuning and troubleshooting complex applications in a high volume environment.
• At least a year of current hands-on experience managing UNIX applications in a 24x7 production environment.
• Proven ability to be flexible and work hard, both independently and in a team environment, in a high pressure on-call environment with changing priorities, striving to always keep the customer satisfied.
• Willingness to provide support outside of normal business hours.
• Excellent English oral and written communication skills.
• Some travel may be required.

Desired Skills
• Experience with Sun Solaris and RedHat Enterprise Linux.
• Experience with Oracle 9i RAC, MySQL databases.
• Knowledge of C++, perl, Java, PHP, HTML, object oriented design and development.
• Experience with Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, 98, Windows Server 2003.
• Understanding of firewall technologies (Netscreen, Checkpoint).
• Understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols (FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, etc).
• Prior experience in a Massive MultiPlayer Online Gaming environment.

EDUCATION:
• Post secondary degree in computer science or a combination of related experience and education with a minimum of 2 years of recent hands-on technology experience.
