Air Canada Receives Strike Notice
Ticketing policy revised so customers can change bookings free of charge.

MONTREAL, September 16, 2011 – Air Canada has received a strike notice from the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents the airline’s 6,800 flight attendants, confirming the union’s intention to begin a strike at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011.

Talks between the parties are ongoing and will continue prior to the strike deadline, assisted by federally-appointed mediators. However; in recognition of the uncertainty for customers this situation may cause, Air Canada has introduced a flexible rebooking policy to enable customers booked for travel over the next six days on a rolling window basis (September 16-21, 17-22, etc.) to change flights free of charge to a later date until December 9, 2011, subject to seat availability.

Customers wishing to change flights purchased directly through Air Canada are requested to use the on-line Self Service Rebooking Tool. Customers can also contact Air Canada Reservations; however wait times are longer than usual due to increased call volumes. Customers who booked travel through a travel agent must contact their agent directly.

In the event of a work disruption, Air Canada will implement a partial schedule including codeshare flights operated by its partner airlines.

The airline will provide further updates as developments warrant.

Air Canada has received a strike notice from the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The vote comes after the majority of the airline's 6,800 flight attendants rejected a tentative labour agreement. The notice confirms the union's intention to begin a strike at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011. Unlike the strike in June by Air Canada’s customer service agents where flights were not significantly affected, the airline is suggesting that it will cancel certain flights and implement a partial schedule including using code-shared flights operated by its partner airlines.

While talks between the parties continue, Air Canada recognizes the uncertainty this situation may cause for customers, and has introduced a flexible rebooking policy to allow customers booked for travel over the next six days on a rolling basis to change flights free of charge to a later date until December 9, 2011, subject to seat availability. That means travellers booked to fly six days from today can change flights without penalty, and if there is no resolution tomorrow, then passengers travelling within six days from then can rebook without penalty, and so on toward the deadline. During these windows, changes to flight dates are free of charge, but no refunds are available at this time. Normal fare conditions apply regarding refunds and in the event of cancellations due to schedule changes, full refunds would be available.

WestJet has indicated it will add extra flights to the schedule from Sept 21st through to the 25th, and will update them accordingly. Porter Airlines has indicated no planned changes to its schedule at this time; it will continue operating as usual.

The next time you have the choice between being right and being kind, choose kindness.

Air Canada and CUPE Reach Tentative Agreement,
Business as usual at Air Canada
•Air Canada mainline flights unaffected
•Air Canada Express service to Toronto Island unaffected
•Air Canada Express operated by Jazz returns to regular schedule Thursday September 22
MONTREAL, September 20, 2011 – Air Canada today announced that it has reached a tentative collective agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing the airline’s approximately 6,800 flight attendants.

The agreement is subject to ratification by the union membership. Details of the agreement will not be released pending ratification, and approval by the Air Canada board of directors.

“The conclusion of a tentative agreement is welcome news for our customers and we want to thank them for their ongoing loyalty and support during this round of contract negotiations. It’s business as usual and customers can continue to make their travel plans on Air Canada with confidence,” said Susan Welscheid, Senior Vice President, Customer Service.

加航工会闹不起来,渥太华拿个大锤等着呢,上次没几天就下复工令了,这次也准备好了。渥太华似乎是要给加拿大的工会们画一条红线。
