The earthquake, felt as far away as Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam. More than 12,000 people have been confirmed dead and 94,000 people are missing. The death toll is rising every minute. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, and the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Canada is contributing $1 million to support the emergency response of the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) following the May 12 earthquake in China. In addition, as stated yesterday in the House of Commons by Minister Oda, the Government of Canada will also match individual donations to humanitarian organizations. |
