另外，去ICBC过户后，买保险的时候，agent居然问都没问我，就说保险一年2500多， 幸亏我提前研究了保险的policy, 我仔细一看， collision 和comprehensive 全给我上了！ third party 直接买了2million. 当即要求 collision 和comprehensive全部去掉，保留2million third party. 这样，一年保险加上牌照费等等费用，$1700多即可了。....

Suggest you add comprehensive if your car value over 3000.
I had the same experience with an old 94 buick and it's been stolen last year. It's been found by police 2 weeks later and it's totally lose. I got nothing back from ICBC plus I had to pay for all the cost of rental and towing fee.

Comprehensive is likely 300 per year but it's useful and it won't affect your insurance even you have claims.

Sure, old car has less protection and easy to break in. I have the same idea as you now have, but unfortunately I am wrong. BTW, my car was parked in secured underground parking lot. Thieves are not always looking for sale your car, they just want take it for fun, or even for crimes.
I am lived in New Chinatown here, haha...
