“有选择的权利”是所谓“消极自由”，“能够随心所欲做到喜欢的事”是所谓“积极自由”。GCD常用的诡辩伎俩就是声称在自由主义社会（我不喜欢“资本主义”这个名称。我宁可用“自由主义社会”和“极权社会”）多数人并没有积极自由，从而说明自由主义社会“自由”的虚假，从而否定自由主义。 消极自由如果没有的话，人就是精确意义上的奴隶，这个不须多讲。逐渐步入中年，逐渐失去少年时的锋芒，或者说，失去少年时的轻薄狂妄，越来越体会到世事之艰难复杂，远非简单的善良愿望就足以成就，远非简单的自由信条就足以保证。而随着阅历增加，越来越见到世界上“大多数”的平凡庸俗和不可理喻，越来越见到历史上成就最大事业的不是真理而是巧妙的谎言。早年曾狂热推崇古希腊的自由精神，可是却看到古希腊走向自毁；早年曾狂热抵制非理性的崇拜，或者说抵制一切宗教式的不加辨析也不容辨析的信仰，可是却看到将欧洲拯救出野蛮的正是基督教；早年曾梦想以平等和善意解决一切组织问题，大到社会小到企业，可是却看到在困难到几乎无法实现的交流和沟通面前，以暴力和谎言为支撑的权力秩序往往是最有效率的。更重要的是，发觉自己一事无成。 “A tree is judged by its fruits. One should have fruits.” Jesus taught us. 所以我现在不再以信条为判断，而是以结果为判断。折射在“自由”这个问题上，讨论社会自由，我现在就认为只有消极自由是不够的，要达到好的社会效果——最多人的最多福利，最少人的最少不幸才是好的状况（当然，要非常警惕消极自由的丧失。社会消极自由一旦丧失，随之而来的是巨大惨剧，20世纪的历史已经充分证明了这一点）。从个人自由来说，现在西方社会基本上不存在个人消极自由的缺失，我们争取的自由其实就是积极自由，最直接的表现就在三处：是否有钱实现自己想要的生活，是否有组织自由度实现自己想要的生活，是否有authority去实现自己喜欢的组织关系。后两者在越来越成熟的现代社会越来越难得到，因为成熟也就意味着固定，多数试图打破固有模式的努力会被证明无利可图、被证明破产；向往积极自由的人的道路正在变得越来越艰难。哪怕数千年之后的更完善得多的社会，我想，积极自由对于多数人来说也会缺失。 |
