I'm currently the secretary of senior mgr in IBM China. My husband is in Canada for his master degree and will get diploma next year. The sanction of my permanent resident application for family class should be received by April I think. But now we face a problem - should I resign from my current job and land in Canada now? My background is: - 5 years work experience as a secretary, including GM's secreatary & assistant - about half of year's experience in multinational company/IBM - got a BA majored in Economics in a Middle-sized University - without TOEFL grade, little preparation for enrollment at Canada University - will transfer to a new position as a buyer in current company/IBM in mid-year. - Present salary is 6k, just middle level in this city and the start level in IBM two choices we can make: 1. I resign and land in Canada in Auguest, plan to take some trainig on Accounting, try to find a junior position on Accouting in one year. And then take some courses maybe Logistics or Accounting on the job. Also want to find some business opportunities between China & Canada as you guys would like to. 2. I keep my job and develope career in IBM, waiting my husband come back China after one year. Maybe I just need to make my first landing in Canada during this period. And we can decide if we will go to live in Canada or not one year later. Could you kindly give me some advice just on your position? I really want to be together with my husband earlier since you may know how tough the live is in Canada by oneself. But it seems difficult for me to find a equivalent job in Canada. Think you guys may have been in such a dilemma so very appreciative if you can drop some comments here. THANK YOU! |

It depends on how you define the word "OK", using myself as an example, I have a "OK" professional job, a "OK" salary, and never know if I can still have these 2 "OK" stuffs if I am laid off in the future. Even with these "OK"s, I don't feel any big future laying in the front of my road. Hard to say tho, it all depends on yourself and what kind of life style you prefer, but one thing could be pretty sure that if you come to Canada, your husband will seldom have a chance to dump you. So if you two are looking for a stable life, it is worth a try in Canada; If thinking of exciting career, you'd better go with Option 2 since you will definitely go back to China eventually. Good luck!!
quote:
Originally posted by LaserServices: I don't think it is difficult to find an equivalent job if your English is OK.

|

Do not go to Canada! -- It's very diffuclt for you to get a job except you forget your past and work as a labor. Anyway, suggest you come and stay here for a few days... then you decide your future... To speak the truth, I'm a Master degree in Civil Engineering, as well as got so many diplomas in Computer sciences, but still could not get a satisfied job except a labor. |
