2009 Youth in Policing Initiative,
Helping Toronto's youth gain job skills

On Monday, January 26, 2009, the Toronto Police Service will start accepting applications for summer employment opportunities, as part of this year's Youth in Policing Initiative.

Under the program, 100 young people, 14 to 17, will be placed in jobs with various departments of the Toronto Police Service. To be eligible, the youth must reside in one of the following neighbourhoods:

- Kingston - Galloway
- South Parkdale
- Westminster - Branson

- Steeles - L'Amoreaux
- Weston - Mt. Dennis
- Lawrence Heights
- Flemingdon - Victoria Village
- Crescent Town

- Malvern
- Jane - Finch
- Jamestown
- Regent Park
- Dorset Park

They must also: 另外，他们必须是

. be students between 14 and 17
14至17岁的学生；

. not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been granted. Must not have any charges pending before the courts,

. be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident,

Last year, over 700 young people applied for the 100 positions.

This year, application packages can be picked up at police divisions across the city, at the Employment Unit at headquarters, or at the following community centre locations:

- Driftwood Community Centre, 4401 Jane Street at Finch Avenue West,

- Malvern Recreation Centre, 30 Sewells Road at Neilson Road,

- Regent Park North Community Centre, 203 Sackville Green, at Parliament Street

- Rexdale Youth Resource Centre, 1530 Albion Road in the Albion Mall.

Application packages will be available until Wednesday, February 25, 2008.

Students seeking information about the program, or the application process, are invited to attend information sessions on the following days and times:

- Saturday, January 31, 2009: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Police Headquarters, 40 College Street,

- Tuesday, February 3, 2009: 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., 31 Division, 40 Norfinch Drive,

- Wednesday, February 11, 2009: 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., 43 Division, 4331 Lawrence Avenue East,

- Saturday, February 14, 2009: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Police Headquarters, 40 College Street.

The Youth in Policing Initiative is one component of the province's Youth Opportunities Strategy, a broad plan to help young people faced with significant challenges achieve success. It is funded through the Government of Ontario's Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
