first of all, everybody start with zero.so, do npt be aware of everything. so what i can tell you is: always be alert, always be energeic, and relax.always keep your eyes open. and always use your mind and your pen. first let me tell you the paper work, it is pretty hard to tell everything, even me , i don't know everything,---what i can say and what i know is only a little bit. you can fit\gure out what kinds of paper work you need to do, in the terms of paper work, we can clasified them into two types:1.the document of the euipments, the authorities, basic forms, and some necessary books such as maps, lists of custom's brokers, log books, safety regulations, some of them you need to check if they are expired ,some of them you need to check if the amount of them is enough for your next couple of trips;2. something you have to check and write down for both business use and inspection use, like dispatch order, log book, BOL, invoices, manifest, bar code, and pre-trip inspection report,wa, what a mess, but a y way it is ok, just show something what i know. so, since you approaching the truck, you are facing a pre-trip inspection report and in the mean time prepare for the log book.after you checked the vehicle, then you ahve to check the all the cocuments, especialy, sometimes the truck jsut fixed, or switched the driver, somebosy else may touched the document before you,if something wrong,it is you who are goin gto meet problem--i dont want to scare you--not always but sometimes,if you are not lucky enough, all the problems show up in one minutes.make sure all the stickers are not expired, a lots of states need special authorities. before you start your log book, you have to know where to pick up the load, and what you have to prepare for the pu, such as the address, the zip code, the pu#, or po#, or even the tel #, if you think your enl\glish is not good enough, you;d better write down all the number and you company name on a piece of paper or a snall book.then you simply show the shipping guy.after you pick up the load, you should review all of them, because sometimes, the address the dispatch gives you is not correct, and you have to read all of them carefully, because sometimes, they have si\ome special requirement, such as they want you to cross a certain assigned border, maybe even they give you the custom's tel and fax#, but they still want you to fax manifast with bar code and all the attachments to a certain agent company,if some info conflicts, you have to contact with your dispatcher to make sure which is right. then you are going to make the trip plan which fits your personality, your habit, and ALL the regulations--i mean the driving hours.basically, you should know what what they wants you to do, and what you must not to do.the trip plan is not like a report, but it is more important than a certain written report, am i right? (when they are loading the trailor, you should try your best to super them because sometimes, when they are loading use the forklift, the pallets or the box, or even the wall or floor of the trailer can be damaged, and sometimes, the quantities is not correct, so if you see something damaged, you have to let them mark down on the paper you got,if the total amount is short, you have to ask them to count again--just for avoiding your un-necessary risk.and even you have to let them a\mark down the time you check in or the time they suppose to start loading and the time they finish loading). next you have to do the logs, then you know if you need to go to scale, next fax the border documents. most of the company require drive rto write down the time and the mileage whenever they croos the border of sifferent states or provinces. on the log, you should try your best to fill up all the blanks, and try your best to make the neat and tidy. on the way to the destination, you should put all your receipts all together which classified by the time, so sometimes, follow the some flow with your log book. when you arrived, then you have to check in again and supervise them to do the unloading, then let the receiver guy signing on the BLD, you have to open your eyes widely to see what he wrote down on the paper,if it is only a signature it is ok, if there are some extra sentence or words show up, you have to know what he writes on it,maybe, it is said something damaged, then you can tell who and when those damages occured,if it was dan\maged when loading at the shipper, then you can show them the signature,if you see it is the receiver who damage them then you can tell them and report to your dispatcher, then you have to know their printting name. after that you have to finish the trip sheet, you have to tell what kinds of extra expense happenned due to a certain reason. so what i really mean is, nobody can tell how much paper work you have to do,but if you keep alert, you can find them by the proper way, anywhere, anytime, the only aim, is just for avoiding un-necessary problems, a proper orderly neat paper work can help you alot unexpectionally, sometimes, when the police stop you without a certain reason just like a random inspection, but as soon as they see your paper work like this, they recognize you as a professional driver and simply let you go! if you like ,you can post this to the website. wish you good luck! |
