Honda of Canada Mfg. made the announcement this morning Tues., March 30, 2010). The new jobs will allow the Plant 2 to return to two production shifts.

Since 2008 Honda's Plant 2 in Alliston has been operating at half-production, producing 400 vehicles per day. Adding the 400 new positions in 2011 will increase the daily production to 600 units per day by spring 2011.

"We are pleased to be making this announcement as the Canadian economy continues to show signs of recovery," said Manabu Nishimae, president and CEO of Honda Canada Inc.

What vehicles will be produced with the extra shift has yet to be determined. Honda's Plant 2 currently produces the Acura MDX, Honda Civic Sedan and the new Acura ZDX.

"The model mix details haven't been worked out yet, we're still a little ways away from that. We'll have to take a look at market demand," said Lisa Timpf, Alliston Honda of Canada Mfg. spokesperson.

Declining vehicle sales have meant cutbacks at the Alliston Honda plants since the end of 2008. Plant 2 production was cut to one shift and all associates have faced reduced hours and non-production days.
