图文并茂:自己动手清洗Throttle Body
以下清洗方法针对GM 3.8L引擎,相信别的型号、种类的引擎可以依此类推。 Purpose: To help clean the throttle body and a little bit of the intake manifold. And regain some performance and smoother idling. Parts and Supplies Needed: 1. Can of GM Cleens, retail Price of approx $8.00 2. 1 Flat Head Screwdriver ( If you are using an open cone setup like me, or using a coupler with some clamps. or use whatever tool needed to remove intake from Throttle body. ) 3. Some Shop Towels, I used the blue kind, found at Canadian Tire. |

Procedure: 1. First Remove Engine cover to gain better access to the throttle body ( TB ) 2. Remove Intake system from Throttle body, using whatever tools are applicable in your setup 3. Place intake system somewhere out of the way, but in reach of the IAT harness. 4. Take the bottle of Cleens. And follow the directions. |

Picture of the TB before we got started. Hard to see, but there is a lot of crap on the TB Plate, and walls it looks like. Will try to explain at the end of this write-up. 5. Start the car and let it warm up for a min or two. And then start to spray inside the TB try not to hit the MAF or the car will stall, this is where a Friend or a Stranger helps. In my case I had neither, so I used my friend Kelly, (Just kidding man ) have him or her rev the engine to keep it from stalling. I tried to spray all over the TB, the TB Plate , the walls of the Throttle body, anywhere you can inside the TB, just watch out for the MAF again. at this point basically just use up most of the can, and then shut the car off, then let the car sit for about 15 mins. During this time, I held the TB wide open and sprayed the back side of the TB plate, and sprayed whatever I could past it. It was at this point , when I started to notice a lot of black crap (Carbon deposits most likely) start to flow out of the TB. Which was good I thought, because from the outside the TB appears to be clean and shinny. But when I did this a lot of crap started to come out. Just clean this up with a Shop Towel. And use whatever is left of the can. 6. after letting it sit for a few approx 15-20 mins. Wipe up any crap that is inside the TB and around the inlet. 7 start the car up and rev it up abit to burn whatever is left inside the TB. 8 shut off car, and then clean up again if need be. And reassemble the intake system, hook up anything that was unplugged , put engine cover back on, and Enjoy. Now the can says that it will help bring alive a sluggish feeling car, it does help, idling was improved and the car did have abit more response. Now I did do this when I first got the car back in the fall, and now I have redone it again. I noticed that there was a lot of crap inside the TB and on the TB plate. I am not sure if this is normal or not. Or because I have a different intake system from the stock one. Will keep an eye on it for sure. But for 8 bucks, I would probably do this maybe 2 or 3 times a year, just to keep the TB clean. Of course the best way to clean the fuel system, is to get a Fuel System Purge done AKA MotorVac, this is done by attaching a fuel cleaning setup to your fuel rail , and then shutting off the fuel pump, so that your car runs off the solution that is being pumped into your car. They also attach this system to your TB, which also cleans the top part of the intake manifold and TB of course. |

That's so-called emission service in GM dealers. there sould be a kit-1 spray can, two cans, one goes to fuel tank, another goes to intake. I juuuuuuuuuuust don't trust it. I do it every day for $150 customer pay job. they are useless except that spray can. How do you think that the small can(dark blue stinky fluid) will clean the intake manifold? Have you guys ever done intake manifold reseal on GM v6 engine? So what have you seen after removing the lower intake manofold? will that small can really work? I still remember I spent 60 minutes to clean intake manifold using varsol last time( my own montana). another can that goes to fuel tank, according to the instruction, it will help to clean the fuel level gauge sender to get accurate reading. it never worked on my van even I put 3 or 4 cans already. concerning that spray can, last customer DIY and damaged the mass air flow sensor when cleaning it. ... ... It is a tricky job to get it done right and takes time actually. the hotter the eng is the better result will be but not as good as what service advisors tell to customers or the differences shown on the pictures hanging on the wall in dealer. |
